A recent survey by Mortgage Choice has found that small houses with one to three bedrooms are the outright favourite among investors planning to buy their first property in the next two years.
Almost half of first time property investors in Australia said they were considering purchasing this type of property.
Small units or apartments with one or two bedrooms came second, with 20.9 per cent of investors saying they were interested in buying these properties.
Other types of apartment weren't as popular – only 3.8 per cent said they wished to buy a large unit or apartment with three or more bedrooms, while two per cent were thinking of investing in blocks of units or apartments.
Mortgage Choice spokesperson Belinda Williamson had no doubt as to which type of property was the clear favourite among Australian investors.
"Houses are king for first time property investors, with a small house topping the list in all states as the preferred investment property," she said in an August 22 media release.
