Residents of Belconnen real estate that often visit the town centre may be able to enjoy using the Civic Merry-Go-Round there, after the city council decided that it will be shifted.
The Merry-Go-Round is about to celebrate its 100th birthday next year, and in order to get more residents and visitors using it the council came to a unanimous decision to relocate it to the popular Margaret Timpson Park in the town centre.
"Belconnen would certainly use and value this historic tourist attraction, and it would entertain families that use the town centre," said Belconnen community council president Robyn Coghlan in a July 5 statement.
"The park is a perfect location. It’s between the shopping centre and the library, and the Canberra Connect Office attracts a lot of parents with their children in tow. We also believe that it would make Margaret Timpson Park an attraction and bring more families and children into the Belconnen area."
Relocating the Merry-Go-Round will also help to preserve the city's rich history by keeping it in use for many years to come. Belconnen has a number of parks and open spaces for families with children to enjoy, and this is a great way to encourage them to do so.
