Get the kids active in Belconnen this autumn

By Ben Faulks

The weather may be getting cooler in ACT, but that doesn't mean families aren't still out and about enjoying the outdoor fun this region has to offer.

If you invest in Belconnen real estate, chances are you'll have plenty of land for the kids to play on right outside your doorstep, but nearby Lake Ginninderra offers even more fun for the whole family.

Central to most properties in Belconnen, the lake is a source of recreation all year round, but here are some ways to get the kids moving this autumn:

Go for a bike ride

Pack up the family bikes and head to the lake for an afternoon of adventure. You can cycle all the way around the lake on the paved cycle/walkway, and even head out onto the wider Belconnen cycleway once you're through.

Chase some waterfalls

It may be too cold to take a dip in the lake, but if you head to John Knight Memorial Park on the lake's southeast corner, you can still enjoy some cold-weather water activities. In the park's northern valley, you can check out the cascades and waterfalls, or indulge in a little relaxation at the quiet water garden on the park's upper level.

Bring Fido

Even the furry members of your family may appreciate a change of scenery. Head to Diddams Close Park and check out Belconnen Dog Park right nearby. It's one of the biggest in Canberra, so will draw a good crowd of dogs and their owners. Young pups that need a bit of socialising will do well to mingle with some new canine playmates at this park.
