Residents of Gungahlin are among the most generous in the country, as they donate the highest proportion of their salary to charity.
This is according to the latest NAB Charitable Giving Index, which found that residents have an average income of $59,957 per year and done around 0.3 per cent to good causes.
Owners of Gungahlin real estate in the 2912 postcode area were also found to give the most in dollar terms to charities throughout the country.
This is just one of three postcodes across Australia where charitable giving is strong both in terms of a proportion of income and in dollar terms.
Speaking to Fairfax Media sources, NAB corporate responsibility general manager Paula Benson said that Canberrans should take pride in the results of this survey.
"I think we can assume that Canberrans are a generous lot, and the rest of the country can probably look to them for leadership on this," she commented.
NAB believes there are a number of factors that are affecting people's ability to give generously to charity, including a slowdown in economic conditions and a shift towards spending on services.
NAB Group chief economist Alan Oster also said that there have been fewer natural disasters over recent months, which will have moved the focus away from humanitarian causes.
