The next phase of the High Speed Rail Link project will bring benefits to Canberra and surrounding areas, the ACT's chief minister has claimed.
Katy Gallagher noted that the service would improve cross-border connections, as well as bring positive economic returns to the capital and beyond.
"We understand that this project comes with challenges but we also believe that this is a critical piece of infrastructure which will have long-term benefits to the city and importantly our local region," she commented.
A report into the link indicated that the connection between Sydney and Canberra would be the first stage to undergo construction, which will no doubt be welcomed by anyone with Belconnen apartments.
Transport connections are often a major consideration for anyone buying a property and these infrastructure upgrades are likely to increase the appeal of Canberra and the surrounding area.
Minister for the environment and sustainable development Simon Corbell stressed that there have been some "encouraging developments" released in the latest report.
The Canberra stop would be located in Civic, he explained, which will provide access to the city centre where many people work and live.
There will be discussions over how the link will connect with light rail and other transport networks.
