Are you someone looking to live in Belconnen real estate and consider yourself actively fit? If so, there's plenty in the Australian Capital Territory's budget for 2015 to 2016 that will bring music to your ears. If not, then there are plenty of incentives and development in the works to get you into the swing of things.
In fact, the budget has made it clear that fitness and health is a big focus for the ACT government, sayingthat "health will always be the ACT Government's top priority". Furthermore, it will push out targeted funding to make sure that "Canberra remains the happiest, healthiest and most active community in the country."
Well it's certainly a bold statement to make, the government doesn't seem to be making empty promises as it doles out a hefty amount of investment into wellbeing and preventative health programmes.
There is a large variety of areas in which the funding will go into. The largest chunk of the budget ($59.9million) is being invested into specialist care such as mental health services, emergency ambulatory care clinics, local drug support and treatment services, and more.
Investment is also being put toward recreational and fitness facilities in schools, as well as the Phillip Oval.
Initiatives such as the Growing Healthy Families Program will receive $1.3million while $1.1million will be going to the Healthy Future: Preventative Health Program which aims to prevent chronic diseases.
Plenty of funding will also be spent on developing shared paths to encourage walking and cycling over driving a car.
