The iconic Belconnen Markets are undergoing an upgrade at present with a vision to create a lively precinct where people can come to live, work, meet and play.
The Vacant land behind the existing market on the corner of Benjamin Way and Belconnen way will be used to create 5 new buildings. These 5 Buildings will home retail and residential spaces, new cafes, restaurants, retail outlets, parkland, office spaces and apartment spaces.
With environmental sustainability being a main focus such technologies included will be electric vehicle plug in points, geothermal heating, integrated rainwater, large scale solar microgeneration systems, ventilation and air conditioning systems, waste water management systems and Precinct wide management systems.
338 new apartments will be constructed as a part of the upgrade providing more local business for the community. As well as the apartments, rooftop gardens, 2 parklands and BBQ areas will be available upon completion. The Upgrade will provide a new vibrant and energetic precinct for the whole Belconnen community to enjoy.
The Upgrade is due for completion in 2014.
