The ACT government has announced that construction is about to get under way for Belconnen's newest suburb.
Development work on Lawson, which is set on a 100-hectare site in the centre of Belconnen, will begin this month, according to a September 3 media release.
Lawson will host approximately 1,850 dwellings of mixed density, in addition to several small retail and community facilities.
The site is located close to the region's main amenities, with Belconnen Town Centre just 2.5km away and the University of Canberra, Bruce CIT and the Calvary Hospital all within easy reach.
Construction for the first of the homes is set to begin by the end of next year with a mix of single residential blocks and multi-unit sites.
To balance the urban development, almost half of the suburb will be reserved as public open space.
The impending opening of Lawson will be great news for anyone looking for their own piece of Belconnen real estate.
In addition to a brand new suburb, there will be increased housing opportunities and developments in the Gungahlin and Belconnen regions.
