More developments have been planned for the Belconnen area with Plans been lodged with ACTPLA to build two separate high rise buildings on Emu Bank by Westfield.
According to ACTPLA, construction of a 23 storey, mixed use development, on block 32 is being proposed. This building will consist of 1 restaurant unit, 1 retail unit and 4 office units on the ground floor, 4 levels of podium parking and 223 residential units. Also proposed is construction of a 12 storey, mixed use development on block 34 is proposed and will contain 1 office/agency unit and 2 office units on the ground floor, 3 levels of parking and 96 residential units. All of this combines for a total of 9 Commercial Tenancies and 319 residential Units.
This is in addition to the new developments already underway at Sentinel, Linq and Altitude in the Belconnen Town Centre which is adding a large amount of supply into the area.
The upside of this development is increased traffic for local businesses and shopfronts, however it will also put increased strain on the already pressured parking availability, as the two newly proposed buildings are going to replace some of the Lakeside parking at Westfield Belconnen.
