Public school applications have increased for the fifth consecutive year across the ACT, government figures show.
Releasing the results of the February 2013 Census of ACT Schools, minister for education and training Joy Burch said that these now account for almost 60 per cent of all enrolments.
"In 2013 alone, our public school system is being enhanced with additional facilities valued at approximately $120 million, and we continue to fund our schools at a rate well above the national average," she commented.
Schools are a major consideration for families considering a move to Belconnen real estate, so these figures are likely to be encouraging for many people.
Other highlights of the census showed that as of February 20 2013, there were 68,825 children enrolled at ACT schools, marking a rise of 1.9 per cent from 2012.
Applications to public primary schools increased by three per cent, while public high school enrolments increased 1.5 per cent since last year.
"I remind all parents and carers that enrolments for ACT public schools are now open. I encourage you to make an appointment with your local public school to find out about the educational offerings for your child," said Ms Burch.
