The Australian Capital Territory government recently announced plans to restore the ANZAC memorial on Ainslie Place, which could be great news for owners of Belconnen real estate – especially those with strong ties to the nation's past.
Minister for the arts Joy Burch said that as ANZAC Day draws closer, ensuring that those who fought and died for our country are remembered and given a proper tribute is a major priority for the state government.
"The ACT government believes it is important to honour and recognise those members of the ACT community who have served abroad on memorials in the ACT. The memorials remind us how lucky we are to live in such a wonderful country and provide all Canberrans with an opportunity to remember our veterans," said Ms Burch in a 20 February statement.
The memorial will see the removal and replacement of the glass bricks at the bottom of the memorial, as well as undertaking waterproofing to help prevent future damages. Furthermore, new seating and enhanced lighting will be installed to help further compliment the memorial.
Projects like this aren't uncommon in the ACT, which could present a wonderful location to consider purchasing property in over the coming months.
