The Block: Ray White shines and what does it all mean for Canberra?

By Ben Faulks

Viewers from around the country tuned into Channel 9’s reality TV show The Block on Wednesday night, with over 2 million people watching the Auction of the four renovated properties in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.

Whilst the Bondi property market is far removed from Canberra, in past years we have seen the results achieved on The Block set the tone for the property market in the weeks that follow, as the confidence of buyers to step in and purchase on national television has been a forward indicator for market sentiment. And with all 4 properties selling under the hammer on Tuesday night and 3 well above reserve, we believe it all bodes well for the momentum of recent weeks to continue in the Canberra property market.

Fans of the show may have recognised the Auctioneer from the first property belonging to Josh & Jenna as former Ray White Corporate Auctioneer Pete Matthews.

On a local level Pete called our first in rooms Auctions for Ray White Canberra way back in 2010, and his call really set the tone for the remainder of the evening on The Block.
