The Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) was recently congratulated by the Australian Capital Territory government for their contributions to the development of tourism across the region. Minister for education and training Joy Burch said the CIT received the Tourism Education and Training award, which will lead to their representation of the Australian Capital Territory at the Australian Tourism Awards in Adelaide next year.
"With tourism contributing more than $1.8 billion annually to the Australian Capital Territory economy and employing more than 17,000 people, it's important that we have the skilled workforce needed to keep our tourism experiences vibrant and successful," said Ms Burch in a 4 December statement.
The CIT has contributed a number of different aspects to the development of the state's tourism industry, offering a high level of training and hands-on experience for the next generation. The institute's flexibility and overarching reach is a major contributor the growth of the area's economy, which offers a number of employment opportunities for people statewide.
